Symbiosis reported an exploit affecting its Bitcoin Bridge on September 11, 2026. The protocol halted native Bitcoin routes and isolated the affected bridge while investigating and recovering funds.

Why a bridge pause matters to users

A paused native route can leave users unable to initiate normal bridge operations even when other parts of a cross-chain protocol remain available. Users should not assume that an alternative route or token with a similar ticker is equivalent to the paused native bridge.

What the team reported

Symbiosis said it recovered approximately 15 BTC and offered the attacker a white-hat bounty. Security researchers reported abnormal syBTC minting, while realized attacker proceeds were much smaller than the raw minted-token figure.

Safe steps during a bridge incident

Do not interact with unofficial recovery contracts or links posted in replies and direct messages. Preserve transaction hashes for any pending route and wait for official confirmation that the specific Bitcoin route you need has resumed.
